Why pay rent to the council to reinvest for the greater good..... on 09:18 - Jun 30 by SaleAwaySo we're upset at having to pay over the odds for rent, because there aren't enough houses, but we don't want people to build more houses for us to rent. OK.Of course it doesn't entirely solve the underlying problem of not enough housing stock, but surely any stock that adds to availability of properties is better than none? Is the whole issue with the rental sector caused by a lack of affordable open market housing stock, though? There aren't enough homes available to own, let alone homes that are reasonably priced. Building new homes solely for the rental sector may serve to alleviate the symptoms, but does nothing to tackle the original cause.
